Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question about Daily Letter Grid? Find answers here.
How do I find longer words?
Start by looking for common letter combinations. Scan diagonals carefully — longer words often hide there. Try starting from vowels (A, E, I, O, U) and building outward. Look for common prefixes (RE-, UN-, PRE-) and suffixes (-ING, -ER, -LY).
What's the scoring system?
4-letter words = 40 points. 5-letter words = 50 points. 6+ letter words = 60+ points PLUS a 40-point bonus. So a 6-letter word is worth 100 points total (60 + 40 bonus). Longer words are worth more!
Do I need an account to play?
No account needed! Daily Letter Grid is completely free and works in your browser. Your scores and streaks are saved locally on your device, so no signup required.
Can I replay old puzzles?
Each puzzle is brand new every day at midnight UTC. You can't replay older puzzles on demand, but we keep a leaderboard showing your best scores throughout history.
Why isn't my word accepted?
A word might not be accepted if: (1) It's less than 4 letters, (2) It's not in our word list, or (3) You already found it. Check the feedback message for details!
How are puzzles generated?
Each day's puzzle is generated from the same 'seed' (UTC date), so everyone playing on April 11th gets the same puzzle. This makes it fair for leaderboards. The grid uses a 7×7 layout with words hidden in 8 directions (horizontal, vertical, diagonal).
What happens at midnight (UTC)?
At midnight UTC, a brand new puzzle appears automatically. Your progress on the previous day's puzzle is saved, and your results are locked in. The streak system updates — if you played yesterday, your streak increases by 1!
Is there a hint system?
Currently, there's no built-in hint system, but you can check the Tips & Tricks page for strategy guides. The best 'hint' is to look at word lists on the site — they show common words you should search for.
What if I clear my browser data?
Your scores and streaks are saved locally in your browser. If you clear browser data/cache, you'll lose your saved progress. To be safe, note your high score or take a screenshot!
Can I play on mobile?
Yes! Daily Letter Grid works on any device with a web browser — phone, tablet, or desktop. Just visit dailylettergrid.com. Touch and drag to select letters on mobile devices.
How does the streak system work?
Play a puzzle on any day and start a 1-day streak. Return the next day and your streak grows to 2 days. Miss a day and your streak resets. Streaks encourage daily habit building!
What's the leaderboard?
The leaderboard shows the top 100 all-time high scores. Your best single game score is what appears. You can also view your personal best stats on your device.
